 The Marian Award is the highest Catholic Medal a Girl Scout can earn in the Cadette level of scouting. This prestigious award is given out each year at a ceremony in March at Holy Name Cathedral by one of the Archdiocese’s Bishops.
This program is designed to help young girls learn more about Mary, the Mother of God and the First Female Disciple of Christ. It also helps the girls to learn what it means to be a young woman of faith in their family and friend relationships. During our weekly meetings, the girls will explore their own personality traits, their family history, how to become a good role model and about being a true friend. They will also learn how Mary can be an a strong and important role mode in their lives.
The girls will be filling out weekly worksheets that will be eventually made into a booklet. They will also prepare and run the First Saturday Masses along with doing service work for the parish through the Fish Fry service projects.
Marian Award Program Schedule for 2011-2012
Meetings on Tuesdays from 2:30 until 4 pm in the Ministry Center (convent)
We will meet every Tuesday until Lent which begins February 17th
During Lent, the Marian meetings will switch to help with preparation for the Fish Fry
on Thursdays from 2:30 until 4 pm in School Hall beginning on Thursday, February 23rd
First Saturday Mass in uniform is a requirement!!!
Please have girls in Church Hall by 8:15 am as we run the Mass.
Uniforms consist of white shirt, G.S. Vest and School Uniform or Khaki Pants.
There will be a booklet that we will be working on at the meetings which will be finished on your own before March 15th. Any worksheet not finished at our meeting should be completed at home and brought to next meeting. The girls will need 5 different pictures of dedication to Mary and their explanation by Christmas break.
If you miss a meeting (only for a very good reason) you are responsible for making up the work.
There is an overnight retreat planned over Christmas break in the Ministry Center but will hold off until I talk to the girls and find out their schedules.
The Marian Award Ceremony at Holy Name Cathedral is on
SUNDAY, MARCH 25th at 1:30 pm
Must be in FULL GIRL SCOUT UNIFORM
(Khaki Pants - No school uniform)
The cost for Marian is $20.00 which includes the book, folders & weekly snack.
